South African Compressor Order Takes Peter Brotherhood’s Mossgas Total to 16
18 November 2001 11:31
UK-based manufacturer Peter Brotherhood Ltd has won the contract - valued at more than £0.5 million - to supply two reciprocating compressors to the Mossgas refinery in Mossel Bay, South Africa.
It is the latest in a series of orders stretching back to 1990 and will bring the number of Peter Brotherhood compressors operating at the refinery to 16.
Mossgas uses Fischer-Tropsch ’gas to liquids’ technology to produce synthetic fuels from natural gas. The new single cylinder, single crank compressors will assist in producing low aromatics distillates for use in the manufacture of high quality diesel and kerosene which meets the standards required for the export market. The Peter Brotherhood machines will recycle hydrogen gas through the Hydrogenation Reactor, taking suction at 77 bara and compressing the gas to 92 bara.
The compressors will be shipped as two self-contained skid-mounted packages which will also include 110 kW electric motors, water cooling systems, pulsation vessels and control panels.
Contractor Foster Wheeler South Africa placed the order with Peter Brotherhood on behalf of Mossgas after technical and commercial assessments and because of the refinery’s long experience of the high reliability of Peter Brotherhood compressors.
