Peter Brotherhood Secures South African Contract
23 September 2002 11:14
Specialist engineering company Peter Brotherhood has secured a £1 million order to supply a reciprocating compressor system to a petrochemical plant owned by Sasol - one of the largest and most successful companies in South Africa.
The Peterborough, UK, based supplier of engineered equipment for the refining, petrochemical and process industries won the order against competition from a number of international companies. It was successful because of its ability to deliver ahead of Sasol’s schedule - each day gained saves Sasol significant amounts of money.
The compressor is to be fed by hydrogen, which is presently being flared. The recovered gas will firstly be cleaned by scrubbers then piped to the compressor. This will raise its pressure to match the Sasol Hydrogen gas network system which feeds the gas to various customers on the plant for differing synthetic fuel uses.
The 2MW system will operate at 24 bar and will be supplied as a self-contained package including intercoolers and aftercoolers, separators, interconnecting pipework and an oil console.
The system will be one of the biggest of its type installed in South Africa. It will be delivered to Sasol’s petrochemical plant at Sasolburg, south of Johannesburg, in the autumn of 2002 for commissioning early in 2003.
