Specialist engineering company Peter Brotherhood Ltd has secured a contract to supply a reciprocating gas compressor to a refinery owned by Husky Energy in British Columbia, Canada.
The Peterborough, UK-based company will design, manufacture, install and commission the £400,000 ($CAD 1 million) compressor system as part of Husky’s clean fuels programme.
The partially skid mounted hydrogen compressor will be used by Husky in the process of removing sulphur from gasoline. The machine will be fed low-pressure hydrogen at 14 bar which will be compressed to 25 bar and then fed into a hydrotreater where the sulphur will be removed from the gasoline. As a stand alone machine, performance will be critical.
Engineering and construction company SNC Lavalin was appointed by Husky to oversee the procurement and installation of the project. SNC Lavalin had previously worked with Peter Brotherhood on a number of installations and recommended to Husky that its compressors were used. Peter Brotherhood subsequently won the contract against international competition because of its responsiveness and ability to meet the tight delivery requirements.
Tony Murphy, general manager of compressor sales said: "Husky is a new customer to Peter Brotherhood and we are grateful to SNC Lavalin for their assistance in securing this order. The refinery process will allow Husky to meet the 2005 requirements for sulphur content in fuel."
The compressor is a two throw, single stage system which will be supplied with oil & water consoles, pulsation vessels and a drive motor. The equipment will be delivered to site in November 2004.
