Peter Brotherhood Secures Its Second Canadian Compressor Contract This Year

03 December 2004 10:14

Peterborough, UK-based engineering company Peter Brotherhood Ltd has secured its second reciprocating gas compressor order for Canada this year. The company will supply the compressor to a refinery owned by Husky Energy in Prince George, Canada.

Peter Brotherhood will design, manufacture, install and commission the £400,000 ($CAD 1 million) compressor system as part of Husky's clean fuels programme. The partially skid mounted hydrogen compressor will be supplied with oil and water consoles, pulsation vessels and a drive motor. The equipment will be delivered to site in June 2005.

The compressor built for Husky combines two hydrogen compression services, Reformer make-up gas and the Unifiner recycle gas, onto the same compressor frame. The compressed hydrogen will be used to produce low sulphur motor fuels in separate hydrodesulphurisation (HDS) operations. The compressor cylinder in Unifiner recycle gas service will compress hydrogen and hydrocarbons from 44 barA to 60 barA for injection into the Unifiner Reactor. The cylinder in the Reformer make-up gas service will be fed low-pressure hydrogen at 21.7 barA for compression to 45.5 barA. As an unspared machine, performance and reliability are crucial to Husky’s refinery operations.

Husky Energy appointed engineering and construction company SNC Lavalin to oversee the procurement and installation of the project. Peter Brotherhood's past performance with SNC Lavalin assisted in securing this latest order. The company won the contract against strong international competition because of its responsiveness and ability to meet tight delivery requirements.

Tony Murphy, general manager for compressor sales said: "This is our second contract from Husky Energy in the last six months and we are grateful for the assistance SNC Lavalin have given us in securing this latest order. The refinery process will allow Husky to meet the 2005 requirements for sulphur content in fuel."

Peter Brotherhood designs, manufactures, installs and commissions API 618 reciprocating gas compressors as complete packages incorporating the prime mover, gas processing plant, instrumentation and controls. The company specialises in supplying equipment for onshore and offshore applications including refineries, petrochemical plants, gas processing plants and FPSO vessels.
