BLAST RESISTANT WALLS

The provision of adequate blast resistant walls is an integral part of the design of many industrial applications, such as an offshore topside structure, where they are required to protect personnel and safety critical systems from the risks associated with an explosion or fire.

DuraSystems engineer wall and barrier systems to provide explosion and blast resistance followed by prolonged fire exposure. These products are designed to protect personnel and equipment from the effects of explosion, fire, impact, and the effects of smoke and fumes in hazardous environments.

We appreciate the importance of predictive engineering, and the fact that the number of large-scale tests is limited by the cost and safety implications they entail. The development of efficient simulation tools is a necessity if improved safety is to be maintained, and DuraSystems have this tool.

FIRE PREDICTION SOFTWARE

We have, in conjunction with the Steel Construction Institute, developed a computer predictive engineering program. The FireBlast system designs blast resistant walls. The FireBlast program has been tested on large-scale tests that prove it simulates the effects of blasts and has achieved Lloyds of London approval. 

DuraSystems’ FireBlast program is used to determine the structural requirements for blast walls and partitions.  Structures designed by the FireBlast program and DuraSystems’ DuraSteel offers significant protection from hydrocarbon blasts and fires.  These walls and barriers are H (hydrocarbon) rated and can be engineered by the FireBlast program up to 2 bar blast protection.

FIRE WALLS AND COMPOSITE PANEL SYSTEMS

Passive fire prevention products stop the spread of fire and reduce the damage and consequential costs. Current construction codes require specific walls, floors and ceilings to be fire separations, which will compartmentalize buildings, protecting them from the spread of fire and smoke.

The DuraSystems’ line of fire-rated board products and composite panel systems have been tested and certified in many different applications for use in providing the compartmentalization required for life and property fire safety.  The utilization of DuraSystems’ products in conjunction with tested construction methods can provide building and facilities with rated and approved wall, floor and ceiling systems needed for safety.

SECURITY BLAST PROTECTION

DuraSystems prides itself in designing and implementing physical security features for all sort of installations, providing blast protection for structural elements, force entry protection, pedestrian and vehicle entrances and barriers, and ventilation systems used in providing fresh air and smoke exhaust in the event of an emergency. 

DuraSystems’ DuraDuct products have been tested for fire protection as well as structural integrity in a blast scenario.  In several blast tests with different amounts of explosives up to 9lbs of C4 the ductwork saw no issues with its ability to supply air or remove smoke.
