A Light in the Dark: Lightweight LED Hand Lamp for Ex Zone 0

21 May 2008

R. STAHL has extended its range of lighting technology for hazardous areas, adding a high illuminance, ergonomically shaped hand lamp approved for use in zone 0. It features a high performance 3W LED which is switched on via a unique contact-free turning mechanism.

The lamp, which measures just over 22cm, basically consists of a light-weight aluminum corpus. Since it weighs merely 550g, users can carry it easily.

It can be used for plant inspections in all areas with gas or dust explosion hazards including zone 0 and 20. The lamp can be operated in a wide ambient temperature range (-20°C to +50°C). It has received an EC type examination certificate (II 1 G EEx ia IIC T4 and II 1 D IP65 T130°C) from European notified body ZELM Ex.

Featuring a very robust design, the hand-held device is protected by an antistatic polyamide coating and a polycarbonate disk which covers the LED. A strap attached to the handle allows users to reliably secure the lamp if required and to easily detach it. A carrying holster is available as an accessory. Power is supplied by standard, type-tested LR14 primary batteries. A first set of batteries is already integrated and will provide more than 48 hours of continuous operation. To exchange batteries, the lamp must be opened outside of hazardous areas.
