As a standard, all operator interfaces of the Eagle and Open HMI series by R. STAHL HMI Systems that are fitted with an Ethernet interface for TP cables now have a DNV certificate. On request, these operator interfaces are now also available with a GL or ABS certificate.
Both the explosion-protected types of both series and the models for industrial areas have been certified by an independent testing laboratory to be suitable for installation onboard ships. Thanks to seawater-resistant materials, vibration-proof design and sufficient resistance to electromagnetic interference both HMI series are well suited for maritime applications. Because of the rough environment, flash memory is used instead of hard disks. Currently, the operator interfaces have been certified for any kind of task onboard ship with the exception of installation on the bridge. This certification is expected to be available during the course of the year. If required, both series can easily be installed in control panels.
Eagle series operator interfaces are compact operating and monitoring devices with a screen size of up to 15in. They are suitable for tasks of a medium complexity. Thanks to their proprietary visualization and operating systems, there are no additional runtime licensing costs for the closed systems. The Open HMI series is suitable for more sophisticated tasks. In addition to more powerful hardware these panel PCs also achieve an extremely high level of functionality on the software side.
R. STAHL has been in the business of realising offshore installations and providing automation technology for ships since the early 1990s. With the DNV certification of its operator systems, the company is expanding its already wide range of explosion-protected technology for the maritime sector. In addition to the HMI technology, R. STAHL supplies the IS1 Remote I/O system as well as lamps, a large variety of signal devices and many other types of electrical apparatus.
