Waldenburg, Germany - A new compact resistance isolator is R. STAHL's most recent addition to its IS pac range of Ex i isolators. The type 9180 isolating re-peater is only a slim 17.6mm wide. It registers the resistance value of a Pt100 temperature sensor in the hazardous area and transmits that data to its output channel on the safe side, which is galvanically isolated from the input. A process analyzer in the safe area receives the measured resistance in the form of the original Ohm value.
Despite its very slim design the IS pac 9180 provides two channels, i.e. enables users to connect two sensors with two, three or even four-wire circuits. Other common solutions on the market need more than twice the space for the same purpose. Since most such devices are single channel types, the new dual channel isolator also provides more value for money. The 9180's output adapts very quickly to a measured input value, which allows for flawless multiplexer operation if desired.
The isolators feature safe and reliable line diagnostics and failure alerts due to their integrated sensor-side short circuit and wire break monitoring capability. Failures that do occur can quickly be localized and resolved. The IS pac 9180 bears the classifications e II (1) GD [EEx ia] IIC/IIB and e II 3 G EEx nAC II T4. It is suited for installation in Zone 2 and for connection to intrinsically safe electrical circuits in Zones 0 and 1 as well as in Zone 20 and 21 applications with dust explosions hazards. Like all IS pac isolators, type 9180 Ex i resistance isolating repeaters can be mounted as single components onto a DIN rail, supplied with others in a cost-efficient pac-Bus package with group power supply and collective failure messages, or snapped into an innovative pac-Carrier.
