PLATE HEAT EXCHANGERS IN HYDROCARBON PROCESS INDUSTRYHistorically the shell and tube heat exchanger has been widely used in hydrocarbon processing. However experience shows that it’s possible to increase efficiency and profitability by replacing them with plate heat exchangers. Tranter Ultraflex is a patented plate design that has successfully replaced the shell and tube exchanger in several petrochemical plants. Tranter's heat transfer plates are available in corrosion resistant materials such as 316L, 254SMO and titanium. The plates are being pressed in our factories in Vänersborg (Sweden), Pune (India) and Wichita Falls (Texas, US). All factories have ISO 9001 certified quality systems and ASME U-Stamp (U1) certificates. GASKETED AND ALL WELDED PLATE HEAT EXCHANGERSGasketed plate heat exchangers are typically used at design pressures / temperatures of up to 25barg / 180°C for fluids such as cooling water and lube oil. A movable cover allows full access to the heat exchanger internal for easy maintenance. The gaskets are available in elastomers such as NBR, EPDM and Viton. Typical applications are condensate cooling, quench water cooling and jacket water cooling. The all welded plate heat exchanger is a relatively new product in the hydrocarbon process industry designed for high pressure / temperature systems. Tranter's all welded units Supermax and Ultramax are compact designs suitable to replace the shell and tube exchangers in certain petrochemical plants. Typical applications are propylene cooling and nitrogen steam heating.
