Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics - Spring-Energised Seals and Rotary Lip Seals

Through acquisition, Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics has obtained RACO Seals and the Furon Company who have been the world leaders in spring-energised seal technology since 1951. The High Performance Seals group designs and manufactures a full line of engineered polymer seals for a wide variety of critical applications and processes. Our Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) seals are used in applications where high reliability and strong resistance to adverse chemicals and temperature extremes is critical. For static or dynamic sealing requirements, our OmniSeal® product family will satisfy practically all of your design specifications. For rotary and oscillatory applications, we also offer the OmniLip™ seal product family- featuring both metal and polymer-based casings.

The High Performance Seals group provides smart, engineered solutions and specialized installation tools for any demanding applications. Using state-of-the-art CAD/CAM programs, our engineering team combines unparalleled seal design expertise with advanced materials and spring designs to create innovative sealing solutions for a variety of industries and applications. Among the markets served by the Seals group are petrochemical, aerospace, industrial pumps and compressors, instrumentation, and medical, to name just a few.

In the petrochemical market, we are a recognized supplier of offshore sealing products, meeting customer requirements for outstanding temperature and pressure capabilities as well as extreme chemical resistance, long life and low wear. Most of all, we can manufacture OmniSeal® at virtually any specified sizes.

OMNISEAL® SPRING-ENERGISED SEALS

Omniseals® are spring actuated, pressure assisted sealing devices consisting of a polymer jacket encapsulating a corrosion-resistant spring energiser. We offer the broadest line of PTFE materials and a full range of Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics proprietary blends including Fluoroloy®, Meldin®, and Rulon®. A large selection of engineered polymer jackets is complemented with eight different metallic energizers so that different combinations allow our engineers to design the sealing solution for your specific process within 24 hours.

Our Omniseals® have gained widespread acceptance for their good sealing characteristics, low friction, extended shelf life and lower cost of operation. Some Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics standard designs and materials can be delivered to you for prototype testing within three business days.

OMNILIP™ ROTARY LIP SEALS

OmniLip™, proven as an effective alternative to the high cost of mechanical face seals and the limited performance of elastomer "rubber" lip seals, delivers the best economical design, ease of installation and higher seal performance. Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics OmniLip™ Seals are designed to fit most standard rubber lip seal sizes for ease of replacement spring and non-spring actuated shaft seals used for sealing rotating shafts. Our OmniLip™ seals are widely used in the industry for sealing gases, harsh chemicals, abrasives, and numerous types of lubricants. The OmniLip™ product line utilizes PTFE as the base polymer for improved seal and shaft wear performance. PTFE offers outstanding chemical resistance and longer product life.

The OmniLip™ product family is divided into three typical product applications:

  • OmniLip™ Seal: metal cased shaft seal requiring a press fit into a housing bore. Filled PTFE is used for the sealing lip material for high performance sealing
  • DynaLip® Seals: Non-metallic press fit for ease of installation. The seal can be installed and removed by hand in most cases and not specialized tools are needed. The casing and sealing elements are all made of polymer construction
  • OmniLip RS®: Similar to the OmniLip™ metal cased seal with the exception that the seal can be rebuilt. The OmniLip™ can be disassembled without removing the metallic seal case from the housing bore and rebuilt at a fraction of the cost of a new seal. This reduces the cost of replacement seals and reduces down time due to seal removal and reinstallation. This patented seal is a new addition to Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics current lip seal line and can replace any metal cased lip seal in a rotary application

Ideal for high temperature and pressure applications, our OmniLip™ rotary lip seals provide effective seal at high speeds, controlled leakage, extended wear, and lower cost of operation.

WORLDWIDE MANUFACTURING CAPABILITY

Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics Seals are manufactured at ISO 9001-certified facilities in California, USA, and Kontich, Belgium. In the latter part of 2001, we will be able to support our global customers in the Asian markets with Sales support and by producing our engineered seals at ISO 9001-certified facilities in Suwa, Japan.
