Non-Destructive Testing - It's All Around You!

26 July 2007 14:54

Many of the spectacular scientific and engineering achievements of the past few years can be traced to Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) methods. By determining internal soundness without destroying the product's usefulness, the satisfactory performance for which the product was intended is assured.

The Gammatec Group of companies views itself as an integral part of this wonderful phenomena. The group consists of five companies: the founding company Gammatec Engineering ( Pty ) Ltd, Gamma Film Industries (Pty ) Ltd, Gammatec Nigeria ( Pty ) Ltd, Gammatec Middle East Trading Co. Ltd, and Gamma Trading Industries ( Pty ) Ltd. All the companies are complimentary to each other, with the trading company handling all enquiries that are not directly related to NDT activities.

Gammatec Engineering commenced exporting into the UAE and Qatar as early as 1994, immediately after South Africa came out of political isolation, and by 2004 the demand from clients and the potential within the oil and gas industry necessitated the establishment of a ground floor presence within the region, and Gammatec Middle East Trading was born.

With this strategic move the company very quickly established itself as one of the leading suppliers of NDT equipment, accessories and consumables, paying particular attention to post sales technical back up service by trained staff members.

Gammatec initially exported its own designed and manufactured range of NDT equipment, plus projectors and isotopes. Thereafter X-ray, ultrasonic flaw detection and magnetic particle inspection equipment was added.

Today the group offers specialized NDT products in the mediums of eddy current and acoustic emission; dye penetrants and other chemicals are also offered. Ultrasonic flaw detection has taken on a new look with the introduction of phased array flaw detection and there has been a major break through in radiography with the introduction of the Kodak Digital Radiography Systems.

Gammatec Middle East prides itself on offering quality and service to all NDT users. It is proud to be part of the Non-Destructive Testing fraternity worldwide.

SOUNDSCAN 101 ADVANCED ULTRASONIC ACOUSTIC MONITORING MADE EASY

The Soundscan 101 can evaluate the condition of individual components, even in extremely noisy environments. Early warning signs and defects can be detected preventing costly repairs, safety-related injuries and downtime.

Applications include mechanical equipment condition monitoring/ analysis, electrical inspection, pressure and vacuum leak detection and non-pressurized vessel integrity testing.

When used with the PowerBeam 300 attachment the range of the Soundscan 101 receiver is increased to 90 meters. Used for detection of malfunctions in electrical components, compressed air systems, steam traps, hydraulic systems, and bearings that cannot be tested in contact mode. A laser pointer zeros in on the component being tested and is powered by two AAA batteries.

A pocket PC for sound data storage and analysis is also available for the unit.

DAKOTA THICKNESS GAUGES - MATERIAL THICKNESS GAUGING MADE EASY

The Dakota Ultrasonic thickness gauges have been designed and built to endure the toughest industry conditions.

The range of the thickness gauges ensures that a quality tool exists to meet or exceed all potential applications. Each gauge is supplied with a standard five year limited warranty, an indication of the durability of the unit.

DIGITAL FLAW DETECTORS - THE BRAND NEW SS RANGE MAKE UT FLAW DETECTION EASY

The Sonatest range of DFD's providing enhanced performance in a lightweight, waterproof package. The DFD's are able to connect to PC’s, printers or data loggers via a USB interface and a variety of software enables the user create reports and organize data storage which is easily transferable to Excel spreadsheets.

PAINT COATING THICKNESS GAUGING COULDN'T BE EASIER WITH THE ALL NEW SONACOAT GAUGES

The Sonacoat is designed for fast, practical and accurate non destructive coating thickness measurement. A dual purpose innovative gauge is used for measurement on steel and non-ferrous metals with automatic substrate recognition, activating the appropriate measuring procedure. The Sonacoat gauge features an easy to operate menu structure, no calibration necessary, optional infrared interface for cable free data transfer, online statistics software, measurement and statistic memory with a choice of languages available.
