Anton Paar Provides Versatility in Microwave Synthesis

Microwave synthesisFollowing the launch of Multiwave PRO for sample preparation applications, this extendable platform is now also available for microwave synthesis.

Whenever time equals money in synthetic chemistry, microwave synthesis is the method of choice. Microwave reactors combine sealed vessel technology and reaction conditions beyond the boiling point of the applied solvent to significantly reduce the reaction time. The Multiwave PRO microwave reaction system from Anton Paar is designed for both method development and multigram synthesis. It builds on Anton Paar's more than three decades of experience in the field of microwave technology.

For a new dimension in reaction screening, Multiwave PRO uses sealable silicon carbide plates. This technology allows up to 192 high-temperature and high-pressure reactions at a time. For the parallel optimisation of up to 96 products, Multiwave PRO provides reaction conditions up to 200°C and 20 bar, enabling the use of different solvents in the same cycle.

For subsequent scale-up, Multiwave PRO masters the liter scale with 16 parallel reactions in the multigram scale. The same microwave conditions can be applied as defined in previous reaction screening and optimisation steps. Applying higher pressures and temperatures up to 240°C and 40 bar expands the possibilities even further.

A unique accessory for Multiwave PRO even allows multigram reactions using gaseous reagents or under near-critical water conditions.
