Statoil has Selected Fantoft to Supply the Simulator for Snøhvit LNG Plant

12 May 2003 14:51

Sandvika, Norway, 12th May.

Statoil has selected Fantoft Process Technologies (Norway) to deliver a Dynamic Plant Simulator for all major parts of the unique Snøhvit LNG plant under construction outside the coast of Finnmark in Norway. The simulator will be a state-of-the-art dynamic process simulator customised and designed for the Snøhvit LNG plant and technology.

“This contract is a breakthrough for Fantoft in the LNG market providing customised simulator solutions for engineering and operator training”, said Knut Erik Spilling, Sales Director for Fantoft Process Technologies. “I am convinced that Fantoft’s motivated staff can supply this high-fidelity LNG plant simulator, solve the technological challenges and fulfil all the expectations from the client. The contract is won in strong competition with the world-leading simulation suppliers and I believe Fantoft's success is based on our unique combination of technical skills and state-of-the-art D-SPICE technology. We are proud of the trust Statoil and Linde have demonstrated through this decision.”

Statoil constructs a new plant for production of LNG from the Snøhvit subsea field, including the Snøhvit, Albatross and Askeladden fields. The location of the plant is the Melkøya Island, near the city of Hammerfest, Northern Norway. Snøhvit would be the first development in Norway's sector of the Barents Sea.

The planned production start-up of Snøhvit is in 2006. The Field will then most likely be the biggest LNG plant in the world regard to LNG production capacity.

The Snøhvit LNG plant will be modelled in the D-SPICE Simulator and furthermore interfaced to a replica of the plant automation system, supplied by ABB.

An OLGA multiphase pipeline simulation model for the subsea part will also be integrated into the D-SPICE simulator environment.

The Snøhvit Simulator will be used as a life-cycle simulator for operator training and engineering studies.

The project will be carried out in close cooperation with Statoil and Linde.

Statoil ASA (Norway) is one of the world's largest net sellers of crude oil, and a substantial supplier of natural gas to Europe. It is the leading Scandinavian retailer of petrol and other oil products. Founded in 1972 the company has about 18,000 employees.

Linde AG (Germany) ranks as one of the world's leading companies in its three Business Segments Gas and Engineering, Material Handling and Refrigeration. The Group achieved sales of 9 billion Euro in 2001 and has a staff of more than 46,000 worldwide. 4,000 employees of this number are employed in the Engineering Division, which supplies plants for the petrochemical industry, gas processing and air separation plants as well as cryogenic, pharmaceutical and environmental plants.
