The Seveso Directive underwent minor revisions following the Bhopal incident and an incident at Basel, which resulted in major environmental damage. In the early 1990s, the directive was subject to a fundamental review by the European Commission.

The purpose of this presentation is to illustrate how the industry can use the process of compliance with one particular piece of legislation, the Seveso directives (the most recent being Seveso III), as a stimulant to improve not only safety and environmental performance, but also business performance.
