Term: Gas Fields

Definition:

Gas fields are deposits of natural gas formed by the anaerobic decay of organic matter deep underground. Natural gas fields are often found close to oil fields. Natural gas is usually formed deeper than 6000m. Oil is formed between 1000m and 6000m. However, as both gas and oil are lighter than water, they rise to the surface, or until they are blocked by non-permeable rock.
