HPCL Plans New Refinery

01 February 2010

Hindustan Petroleum (HPCL) is planning to set up a new 15mtpa refinery on India's west coast.

The $3.9bn refinery will be built to compensate for the space constraint faced by its existing 6.5mtpa Mumbai refinery, according to The Economic Times.

The Mumbai refinery is set up in just 350 acres of space against the 2,000 acres of required space.

The new refinery is expected to be located between Mumbai and Goa, spread over 2,500-3,000 acres of land as requested to the government.

At present, HPCL is commissioning a feasibility study based on which an investment decision will be made.
