Aminex reports Ntorya-2 appraisal well result ahead of expectations

Aminex has announced that the Ntorya-2 appraisal well was drilled successfully to a depth of nearly 2,750m.

The Ntorya-2 well is located onshore the Ruvuma Basin of Tanzania.

At a drilling depth of 2,596m, the well encountered a gross gas bearing reservoir unit of approximately 51m.

Initial petrophysical analysis of the Logging While Drilling (LWD) logs indicates a porous and hydrocarbon bearing reservoir with a potential net pay of between 25m and 30m.

The drilling results were above Aminex’s pre-drill expectations.

Aminex CEO Jay Bhattacherjee said: “We are delighted with the progress of the Ntorya-2 appraisal well, which is ahead of our expectations.

“The reservoir is both thick and high quality. Aminex looks forward to providing the results of the flow-testing, which will enable the joint venture to consider its options for development of the Ntorya field.”

The well is currently deepened at 2,780m before the wireline logging programme is initiated, to allow setting a 7in liner below the reservoir interval.

The company will conduct detailed petrophysical analysis on the LWD and wireline logs.

While the preparations for the well testing programme are underway, Aminex expects to complete the flow testing and petrophysical analysis by the end of this month.

With Ntorya-2 also encountering traces of oil in the gross reservoir interval, the firm is now evaluating the implications of this positive development through an updated basin model.

Ntorya-1 had a net pay of 3.5m and flow-tested at 20 million cubic feet per day with 139 barrels of associated condensate.

The Ntorya field is situated nearly 40km from the Madimba gas processing plant.

On the basis of the well test results, the firm will apply for a 25-year development licence over the Ntorya Appraisal Area.
