Beach Energy begins second fracture stimulation programme in Cooper basin, Australia

Australia-based Beach Energy has drilled the Boston-2 vertical well in PEL 218, located in Cooper Basin, to a total depth of 3,803m, as part of its onshore gas exploration programme.

Wireline logging has been deployed in the well to evaluate the depth, thickness and gas saturation of the target zones.

Initially, the Boston-2 well has been used for microseismic purposes in order to understand the fracture extent and orientation of the Boston-1 well, while the Ensign 965 rig is currently relocated to Keppel-1 in ATP 855.

Beach Energy said the Dashwood-1 vertical well reached a total depth of 4,021m in mid-May and that it is expected to be fracture stimulated in late July.

The Streaky-1 vertical well has been drilled to 3,821m and will be fracture stimulated in nine stages, of which one include in the Murturee Shale and eight in the Patchawarra Formation.

According to Beach Energy, the Moonta-1 vertical well has been flowing gas at a rate of 0.5 MMscfd.

The well was stimulated in ten stages, which include nine in the Patchawarra Formation and one in the Murteree Shale.

The Holdfast-2 horizontal well reached a total depth of 4,210m in late March, and is expected to stimulate over the full 600m horizontal section.

Beach Energy’s Halifax-1 well in ATP 855 of Cooper basin is flowing gas at a rate of 1.1 MMscfd from 14 stimulation stages, through the gas saturated Permian zone.

The company is expected to drill Hervey-1 vertical well to a total depth of 4,200m and has also started a second fracture stimulation programme, of which it has already fracture stimulated the first five stages at Marble-1.

The Marble-1 well will be fracture stimulated in 12 stages, from the top of the Epsilon Formation down to the base of the Patchawarra Formation.

Beach Energy holds a 70% stake in PEL 218, while Chevron Australia Exploration holds the remaining 30% interest.

In the ATP 855 block, Beach Energy has a 42% stake, and Chevron and Icon hold an 18% and 40% interest respectively.
