Chevron concludes first stage development of China’s Chuandongbei project

Chevron’s wholly-owned subsidiary Unocal East China Sea has completed the first stage development of Chuandongbei project in Southwest China, with the commencement of natural gas production from the third train.

The first train achieved its initial gas on 25 January, while the second train achieved its first gas on 7 April this year.

Together, these three trains have a design outlet capacity of 258 million ft³ of natural gas per day.

The company is planning to increase production from all these trains over the coming months.

Chevron’s onshore Chuandongbei gas project, which is expected to have potentially recoverable natural gas resources of three trillion cubic feet, covers more than 800km² in Sichuan Province and the Chongqing Municipality.

The project is 49% owned and also operated by Unocal East China Sea, while the remaining 51% participating interest is owned by China National Petroleum.

Chevron Asia South Business Unit managing director Brad Middleton said: "Bringing train three online at the Chuandongbei Project is an important milestone.

"It also demonstrates strong cooperation between Chevron, China National Petroleum Corporation and the Chinese government at all levels.

"The project is now supplying clean and affordable energy to the rapidly growing economy in southwest China and will be an important supplier for the future to local communities."
