Inpex and Mitsubishi to study solutions for challenges in energy sector

Japan-based Inpex and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) have joined forces to study solutions for various technological challenges in the energy sector.

By establishing a working committee, the companies will address technological solutions together, including utilising the internet of things (IoT) and robot technology to optimise oil and gas production operations.

Inpex has agreed to sustainably grow its oil and natural gas development business and contribute to the stable energy supply to develop and evolve into an integrated energy company.

MHI will combine its wide range of technologies in the fields of energy and environment and will focus on the oil and gas industries worldwide.

The company will start this with its new technology applicable to gas turbines.

Going forward, the companies plan to create new business models and opportunities surpassing conventional frameworks by way of joint study.

They will also combine the resources and technologies cultivated by them over the years and contribute to the realisation of a sustainable society.

Objects in the IoT system are connected to each other through the internet enabling object-to-object and / or object-to-human communications.

By applying this technology to oil and gas operations, benefits such as optimised development planning and reduced development and operational costs can be attained.
