Rosneft and Statoil begin well testing at North-Komsomolskoye oil field in Russia

Rosneft and Statoil have started the testing of two production wells of the PK1 layer of the North-Komsomolskoye field located in Purovsky and Nadymsky regions of Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District in Russia.

The oil and gas condensate field has complex geology associated with an oil rim of highly viscous oil, as well as an extensive gas cap.

The companies are implementing pilot operation of the horizontal wells constructed using practises that are related to inflow control and consolidation of entrained solids.

During testing, average starting flowrate will amount to 75t per day.

Potential of oil production is expected to be at 100t per day for one well.

At the time of well testing, Rosneft and Statoil are planning to carry out complex hydrodynamic and tracer studies.

The companies also plan to implement laboratory investigations of the surface oil samples.

The data obtained during this process will be applied to update geological structure of PK1 layer’s deposit and further elaborate the strategy of full-scale development of the field.

In July 2015 Rosneft and Statoil completed drilling works as part of the pilot project at the PK1 layer and jointly drilled the two exploitation wells.

Rosneft said implementation of the project may allow development of about 600mt of geological oil in place at the field.

Rosneft’s subsidiary RN-Purneftegaz is acting as production operator of the project.
