Texas LNG selects Honeywell technology to remove contaminants from natural gas

US-based Texas LNG has selected Honeywell’s natural gas UOP Amine Guard FS technology and process automation in a bid to eliminate contaminants from natural gas in preparation for liquefaction.

The project on the north shore of the Port of Brownsville’s deep-water ship channel will be carried out in two phases and is set to produce four million tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG), starting 2020.

Texas LNG will use Honeywell’s UOP Amine Guard FS process to cut acid gas to low levels and its adsorbents to remove water, mercury as well as sulfur from the natural gas.

Depending on application and feed gas quality, the technology can also be customised.

Honeywell UOP adsorbents can adsorb contaminants by size and polarity and make them suitable for drying and purifying liquids and gases.

Honeywell UOP Gas Processing and Hydrogen business vice-president and general manager John Gugel said: "Honeywell’s integrated solution of advanced gas processing technology, combined with state-of-the-art automation and control systems, offers a streamlined approach to project execution that helps minimise project time, cost and risk."

Automation and controls provider Honeywell Process Solutions (HPS) will act as the integrated main automation contractor (I-MAC) for the project.

HPS will design, deliver and install the automation, instrumentation, controls, safety and security and offer services related to operations management and advanced planning and scheduling applications.

In November 2015, Honeywell was selected to provide new process technology and advanced automation controls to the $6.5bn Karbala refinery, which is currently under construction in South Karbala province.
