UOP technology selected for pet-chem production in China

China-based Heilongjiang Anruijia Petrochemical (HAP) has selected Honeywell’s UOP technology for production of components for fuels, synthetic rubber and plastics.

The company will use Honeywell’s UOP C4 Oleflex process to produce isobutylene, and the UOP Butamer process to produce normal butane.

Isobutylene is a key ingredient for fuels and synthetic rubber and butane is a feedstock used to produce ethylene.

Honeywell’s UOP Process Technology and Equipment business unit senior vice president and general manager Pete Piotrowski said China is one of the largest petrochemical producers in Asia.

"Over the past two years, UOP has licensed technology in China to produce more than 4 million tonnes of certain key petrochemicals, and we look forward to continuing to provide efficient, cost-effective technology solutions to support the country’s growth," said Piotrowski.

HAP said the new units will produce 180,000t annually of isobutylene and 150,000t annually of normal butane at its facility in Heilongjiang Province.

The units are expected to start in 2014.

Engineering design, technology licensing services will also be provided by Honeywell’s UOP, as well as catalysts, adsorbents, equipment, staff training and technical service for the project.
