Williams Partners seeks approval to develop natural gas service in US

Williams Partners has said that its Transco natural gas pipeline has filed an application with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to expand a compressor station in the Southeast US by the spring of 2015.

The company has also sought approval to provide additional firm natural gas transportation capacity to markets in the Southeast US.

Williams plans to add compression power at Transco Compressor Station 85 in Choctaw County and also to upgrade existing facilities in Washington and Mobile counties in Alabama.

Once the company receives approval, construction will begin in the spring of 2014. The cost of the project is expected to be approximately $50m.

Williams designed the Mobile Bay South III Expansion Project to supply 225,000 dekatherms of gas per day to Florida Gas Transmission and Bay Gas Storage in Mobile County.

Gas will be transported on the Transco Mobile Bay Lateral from the Station 85 4A in Pooling Point, while other receipt points are situated at Transco’s Station 85 in Choctaw County.

The project is expected to supply natural gas to around one million homes.

Transco system general manager Frank Ferazzi said that growing demand for power generation has increased the use of Transco’s Mobile Bay Lateral in recent years.

"Our proposed Mobile Bay South III expansion is an efficient way to move additional supply from a well-positioned compressor station in Choctaw County, Ala. to a number of regional storage facilities to growing Southeastern markets," Ferazzi added.

The Transco pipeline is a 10,200-mile pipeline system which has the capacity to provide approximately 9.9 million dekatherms per day. It can serve around 42 million homes.
