Williams Partners’ Transco to expand Leidy Line in Pennsylvania

Williams Partners’ Transco natural gas pipeline has filed an application with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to expand its existing Leidy Line in northern Pennsylvania as part of a $610m project.

Made as another major expansion project on the Leidy Line, the application was also filed for the expansion of Transco’s mainline from New Jersey through Alabama by 525,000 dekatherms of natural gas per day.

The Leidy Southeast expansion project has been being designed in a bid to address the needs of gas consumers along the Atlantic Seaboard and throughout the southeastern US.

The Northeast Supply Link project is set to expand the existing system of Transco, connecting the Marcellus shale production region to the New York market by 250,000 dekatherms per day.

A portion of the project’s capacity of around 125,000 dekatherms per day was placed by Williams into service in August and the remaining portion of the $390m expansion is expected to be placed into service in November.

Set to be complete in late 2015, the expansion will provide the Leidy Southeast project with enough natural gas to serve the equivalent of around two million households.

Williams Transco pipeline vice president and general manager Frank Ferazzi said: "As we continue to execute on these expansion projects we are further leveraging Transco’s ability to serve some of the fastest growing markets in the country."

The proposed Leidy project is expected to expand the Leidy Line’s currently subscribed firm transportation capacity by around 30%.

Firm transportation will be provided from various supply points along Transco’s Leidy Line to delivery points along its mainline system as far south as pooling points in Choctaw county, Alabama.
