Burckhardt Compression will deliver two Laby® compressors to the Zhenhai petrochemical project in China for the polyethylene and ethylene oxide and glycol plants.
Burckhardt Compression was awarded with an order from China Petrochemical International Co., Ltd. to deliver two Laby® labyrinth piston compressors for the Polyethylene (PE) and the Ethylene Oxide/Glycol (EO/EG) plant that is part of the integrated project of Sinopec Zhenhai Refining & Chemical Company Ltd. at Ningbo, Zhejiang province, China.
The Laby® has a unique labyrinth sealing system on piston and piston rod gland that allows oil-free and contact-free compression. Therefore the Laby® is insensitive to contaminated gases and the ideal solution for PE and EO/EG applications. The gastight housing reduces gas emission and losses to the environment to zero.
Delivery of the two compressors will take place in the beginning of 2009. They will be installed in the new one million tons-per-year ethylene complex for a 450,000 tons-per-year PE unit and a 100,000/650,000 tons-per-year EO/EG unit. The project is scheduled to be completed in late 2009.
Laby® compressors are used in the chemical and petrochemical industry as well as for liquid gas transport and storage. The Laby® is designed to compress without contamination bone-dry, dirty, abrasive and other gases with a discharge pressure up to 300 bar (4350 psi), flow up to 11,000 Nm³/h (6500 scfm), shaft power up to 2100 kW (2800 HP). Laby compressors are extremely reliable machines with unexcelled availability, combining high performance with a unique cooling system.
