Burckhardt Compression delivered two cylinders for an existing Sumy primary compressor for a LDPE plant in Tomsk, Siberia
July 2006, Burckhardt Compression received an order from the LDPE plant Neftechim in Tomsk, Siberia. It included the replacement of two first stage cylinders of a four Sumy primary compressor with Burckhardt Compression cylinders as well as their on-site installation. Since July 2007, when the cylinders were installed, the compressor has run absolutely trouble free. Thanks to the revamp the plant productivity increased from 170’000 tons-per-year to 220’000 tons-per-year LDPE.

three stage LDPE compressor was manufactured by Sumy in the year 1992 in the Ukraine. During the 13 years of compressor operation various downtimes occurred and the required volume was never achieved. Results of a comprehensive in-house feasibility and engineering study of the process, the rod load and the required lifetime have led to the decision to replace the Sumy cylinders with cylinders of Burckhardt Compression design with state-of-the-art features. The additional pulsation and vibration studies confirmed that the replacement can be done. Neftechim decided in favor of Burckhardt Compression due to its broad experience and the low lifecycle cost of its products.
