Fluor agrees to provide engineering services to KPO in Kazakhstan

Karachaganak Petroleum Operating (KPO) has contracted US-based Fluor Corporation to provide engineering services agreement for its projects at Karachaganak Field in Kazakhstan.

KPO’s Karachaganak field is an oil and gas condensate field in north-west Kazakhstan. It covers an area of more than 280km².

The three-year contract has been awarded to Fluor’s consortium with the Branch of KMG Engineering LLP KazNIPImunaigas.

The value of the contract has not been disclosed, but Fluor has booked it in the third quarter this year.

The contract includes feasibility studies, front-end engineering design (FEED) and other engineering services.

The company intends to open an office in Aksai to efficiently address the engineering needs of the contract.

It will mostly make use of local engineering talent to carry out project-related works, as well as offer training and knowledge transfer.

Fluor will also make available an engineering team at its office in Farnborough, UK, as well as global subject matter experts to assist and support project requirements.

Commenting on the contract, Fluor Energy & Chemicals business group president Mark Fields said: “This important award will allow Fluor to build a long-term relationship with KPO and to expand our capabilities and presence in Kazakhstan.

“Our involvement in the early stages of the project means we can work with KPO across a range of work to optimise the Karachaganak field with a focus on achieving an outstanding safety performance and operational excellence.”

KPO is a joint venture between Shell, Eni, Chevron, LUKOIL and KazMunaiGas.
