McDermott wins FEED contract for Oman’s Sohar LNG bunkering project

McDermott International has been awarded a contract to deliver front-end engineering design (FFED) services at the Sohar LNG Bunkering Project in Oman.

The contract was awarded by Total Oman E&P Development in collaboration with Oman Oil. The value of the contract is expected to range between $1m and $50m.

Located at Sohar Port, the project is expected to enable Oman to position as a regional LNG bunkering centre to supply LNG to marine vessels.

According to the company, the FEED contract includes fully defining the onshore mid-scale LNG facilities and preparing a tender for the engineering, procurement, supply, construction and commissioning phase.

McDermott Middle East and North Africa senior vice-president Linh Austin said: “This award is a reflection of McDermott’s 60-year history of delivering innovative LNG solutions worldwide, beginning with our tank storage solutions in the 1950s, to our liquefaction capabilities today.”

Work on the project will commence immediately and the contract award will be reflected in the company’s second-quarter 2019 backlog.

Earlier this month, McDermott signed an agreement with Cameron LNG and Chiyoda for the construction of its LNG liquefaction project in Louisiana.

Based in the US, the company provides technology, engineering and construction solutions to the energy industry.
