BridgeTex Pipeline to start initial commissioning process

Magellan Midstream Partners and Occidental Petroleum are planning to start limited commercial operations on the BridgeTex Pipeline in Texas.

The company has started to fill storage tanks at the start of the pipeline system in Colorado City, Texas. There is high demand for crude oil transportation from the Permian Basin to the Gulf of Mexico.

BridgeTex is ready to accept applications from spot shippers, and line fill is due to start shortly. The BridgeTex pipeline system will be capable of transporting around 300,000 barrels a day of crude oil from Colorado City, Texas, to Houston.

The project includes around 450 miles of newly-built pipeline from Colorado City to Houston and Texas City. Magellan is serving as the construction manager and operator of the pipeline.

Magellan Midstream owns the longest refined petroleum products pipeline system in the US, with access to around 50% of the nation’s refining capacity.

It can store over 90 million barrels of petroleum products, such as gasoline, diesel fuel and crude oil.

Magellan’s assets include 9,500-mile refined products pipelines with 53 linked terminals and 27 independent terminals.

The company also owns 1,100 miles of crude oil pipelines and storage facilities storing around 18 million barrels and marine terminals along coastal waterways with a storage capacity of around 27 million barrels.
