Black & Veatch and Chemtex to develop Shanxi Qixian LNG project in China

US-based companies Black & Veatch and Chemtex have won a bid to develop Shanxi Natural Gas’ liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in China.

The Shanxi Qixian LNG project will have a capacity of one million normal cubic metres per day.

Black & Veatch oil and gas Asia managing director Rochman Goswami said: "The Shanxi plant win allows Black & Veatch to continue contributing to this critical clean fuel sector in China.

"The Black & Veatch-Chemtex team has an unrivalled track record and we were able to customise our solution and deliver it to Shanxi Natural Gas Company within a shorter timeline and with a reduced cost.

"This is a compelling competitive advantage given the need for more LNG facilities throughout China."

For the Shanxi plant, which will be based on Black & Veatch’s PRICO technology, basic engineering design package (BEDP) and critical equipment supply will be provided in addition to associated services.

Chemtex China CEO Sean Ma said: "This project further unlocks the potential already within the province and helps deliver multiple benefits to its residents.

The plant is expected to be completed in 2017 and will address China’s need for increasing natural gas.

Black & Veatch’s Prico technology uses a single-mixed refrigerant loop for natural gas liquefaction and is used in LNG production facilities globally.
