GE supplies compressor-drive technology for HuaQi Ansai LNG in China

GE has supplied compressor-drive equipment for the new HuaQi Ansai liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility located in the Shanxi province of China.

The country’s largest LNG project, the HuaQi Ansai facility features the first application of GE’s 24MW convertor in China. The technology is helping the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) promote economic growth in western China.

Power Conversion provided the whole compressor-drive set, including the converter, rotating machine and transformer to the facility, which supplies an estimated two million cubic metres of LNG per day and 481,100t annually.

According to GE, the company’s compressors are used to operate the refrigeration trains that bring natural gas to its liquefaction temperature so that over long distances it can be transported in ships.

GE Power Conversion vertical oil and gas general manager Francesco Falco said that the company’s reliable and efficient compressor-drive technology can address CNPC’s technical requirements in terms of volume and availability.

"The HuaQi Ansai project underscores GE’s proven ability to provide an integrated package of original equipment, services, localised support and timely communication to our customers such as CNPC," Falco added.

The technology has helped CNPC expand the use of cleaner natural gas to meet China’s energy and environmental priorities. The project will also support the government’s efforts to connect the economic development capabilities of the eastern coastal region with opportunities for new economic and social development in western China.
