Mitsubishi Heavy Industries forms oil and gas division in US

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) has formed a specialised oil and gas unit within its Texas-based subsidiary Mitsubishi Heavy Industries America (MHIA).

The newly formed division will help to manage the combined functions for various products handled by the group, including compressors and gas turbines and provide one-stop solution for upstream and downstream markets.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Compressor Corporation (MCO) president Hiroaki Osaki will serve as the president of the newly formed oil and gas unit.

MHI president and CEO Shunichi Miyanaga said: “Many of MHI’s leading technologies trace their origins back to the US.

"We are pleased to be able to offer the technologies we have honed in Japan to customers in the US from a local base.”

MHI’s Oil & Gas Division has opened an office in downtown Houston, Texas.

This division will identify, develop and execute business opportunities for turbo-machinery and engineered solutions. It will focus on areas such as floating production, LNG, plant modularisation, CO₂ EOR, gas processing and petrochemicals.

Osaki stated: “I am convinced that the oil, gas and petrochemical industry in the US will continue its robust development.

“It is my responsibility to create synergies across MHI’s product lines and utilise our vast R&D network to seek out new technologies, innovations, and services that will drive value for customers and broaden the MHI Oil & Gas portfolio.”

MHI group employs 7,300 people in its more than 100 offices and factories situated across the US.

Last year, the firm established its US headquarters in Houston.

The MHI Group will work closely with its other group companies and through the MHIA Oil & Gas Division to strengthen its businesses in North America.
