WesPac seeks permission to export LNG from Tilbury plant in Canada

WesPac Midstream is seeking permission to export LNG sourced from the Tilbury LNG plant in Canada.

The company’s subsidiary, WesPac Midstream – Vancouver (WPMV), has submitted an application to the National Energy Board of Canada.

The Tilbury LNG plant, which is owned by FortisBC Energy, has recently started work on an expansion project that was approved by the British Columbia Government in 2013.

WesPac is now seeking a licence to cover potential regional exports to customers like small power plants and bunkering for marine vessels.

The company said that customers would benefit from both fuel cost savings and air emissions reductions by replacing oil-based fuels with natural gas.

WPMV is proposing to build a new marine terminal in the Fraser River near the Tilbury LNG plant to undertake exports of LNG by barges or ships.

The marine terminal will be situated on the site of an abandoned marine terminal in previously dredged waters.

The company is currently undertaking engineering and related shipping studies to prepare for First Nations and public consultation, as well as several applications to government agencies.

WesPac, which develops, owns and operates energy facilities across North America, is majority owned by independent infrastructure investment firm Highstar Capital and private development company WesPac Energy.
