Woodfibre LNG project gets facilities permit from BC OCG

Canada’s BC Oil and Gas Commission (BC OGC) has approved a facilities permit that allows Woodfibre LNG to build and operate a project.

The project is a proposed liquefied natural gas (LNG) processing and export facility, which is to be developed by Woodfibre LNG, a Pacific Oil & Gas Company.

The natural gas produced from the LNG facility will be exported through the FortisBC pipeline. The feed gas will be supplied by the Eagle Mountain-Woodfibre gas pipeline.

Woodfibre LNG president David Keane said: “This permit specifies requirements the project must comply with for design, construction and operation of the Woodfibre LNG Project, with a focus on public and environmental safety.

“Previous to this permit, Woodfibre LNG is proud to have received three major environmental assessment approvals. Our environmental assessment process with the Squamish Nation is the first of its kind in Canada. The progress we have made would not be possible without the contributions and feedback made by our First Nation partners and the Squamish community.”

The proposed $1.6bn project will be located around 7km south-west of Squamish, British Columbia, Canada.

The project will have a processing and exporting capacity of 2.1Mtpa of LNG.

Keane added: “This permit is a large piece of our puzzle, and with it in place, we are working towards a final decision to proceed with this project this summer.”

To be located at the former Woodfibre pulp mill site, the project would have a capacity of 0.22bcf/d with two trains to produce 2.1Mtpa.
