Report: North America leads the way in refinery maintenance capacity

North America edged out other regions to have the highest refining capacity under maintenance in both planned and unplanned categories with 2,742 barrels per day (bpd) in the fourth quarter of last year, according to a report by GlobalData.

Titled ‘Q4 2017 Global Refinery Maintenance Review – North America Continues to Experience Most Maintenance in the Quarter’, the report provides details related to various aspects of refining capacity under maintenance.

Asia took the second spot with 1,755mbd refining capacity under maintenance, while the Former Soviet Union (FSU) occupied third place with 1,609mbd.

In terms of planned maintenance, Asia was at the forefront with a refining capacity of 1,755mbd in the fourth quarter, followed by the FSU and North America with 1,308mbd and 1,098mbd, respectively.

In the unplanned maintenance category, North America had the highest refining capacity of 1,644mbd, while South America and the FSU occupied second and third place in that order with 955mbd and 301mbd, respectively.

In terms of countries, the US took the pole position with a 2,657mbd refining capacity under maintenance (both planned and unplanned), followed by Russia and Venezuela with 1,609mbd and 955mbd, respectively.

With regards to refining capacity under planned maintenance in the fourth quarter, Russia (1,308mbd) and the US (1,013mbd) assumed top places, while China followed with 826mbd.

The US, Venezuela and Russia led the way in terms of refining capacity under unplanned maintenance with 1,644mbd, 955mbd and 301mbd, respectively.

Among refineries, Paraguana in Venezuela had the highest refining capacity under maintenance (both planned and unplanned) in the quarter with 955mbd, while US-based Baton Rouge, and Russia’s Omsk occupied the second and third positions with 503mbd and 442mbd, respectively.

In terms of refining capacity under maintenance (for both planned and unplanned), Petroleos de Venezuela, Exxon Mobil, and PT Pertamina (Persero) grabbed the first three places in that order among operators globally, with 955mbd, 944mbd and 618mbd, respectively.
