Jubilant Energy spuds sixth well at Kharsang oil field in India

Jubilant Energy has completed the spudding of KPL-E, the sixth of seven development wells of the Phase-III drilling programme in the Kharsang Field, Arunachal Pradesh, India.

KPL-E in the southern area of the field to the south-west of wells KSG#40 and KSG#51, is being drilled to appraise the lower M-00 and S-00 sands and the T-00 sand.

The well will be drilled to a target depth of 1,400m true vertical depth to deviate it by 548m to the south from the existing plinth of well KSG#32.

Jubilant used Reservoir Dynamic Tester to study wireline log interpretation, mud log shows and formation pressure data and encountered a number of sands in the well in line with previous expectations.

GeoEnpro Petroleum, a joint venture between GeoPetrol and Jubilant Enpro is the operator of the Kharsang Field.

Jubilant has a 25% stake in the block through its subsidiary, Jubilant Energy Kharsang while other members include Oil India and GeoPetrol.

The consortium plans to test the well’s sands and put the first zone into production after the completion of testing the KSG#62 well with the work-over rig, which was mobilised to the site last month.

A further test for the flow rates achieved is expected to be commissioned in three weeks.

The Kharsang licence in the Upper Assam Basin covers an area of 10km2 and has 56 wells, of which 35 are oil producing, with 17 currently shut-in and four abandoned.
