Gazprom signs contract with Mytilineos to supply gas to Greece

Russian energy firm Gazprom’s wholly owned subsidiary Gazprom Export and Greek-based Mytilineos have signed a long-term contract for the supply of natural gas.

Under this contract, Gazprom will supply gas to Greece from this year until 2030.

Gazprom Export director-general Elena Burmistrova said: “The cooperation between Gazprom Export and Mytilineos is proof of the demand for Russian gas in the Greek market, and it will help further strengthen the interaction between our countries in the energy sector.”

The partnership between Gazprom Export and Mytilineos started in 2017 on the basis of short-term contracts.

Last year, a total of 588 million cubic metres (mcm) of gas were delivered to Mytilineos.

This year, the two firms signed an agreement to continue their strategic collaboration through a long-term contract.

Mytilineos CEO and board of directors chairman Evangelos Mytilineos said: “This long-term contract will enhance the competitiveness of Mytilineos in the region’s gas market and make a substantial contribution to maximising the efficiency of our industrial and power assets.”

Founded in 1990, Mytilineos occupies a leading position in the metallurgy sector, as well as electricity and gas trade in Greece.

In January, Gazprom announced the launch of the TurkStream gas pipeline, which carries Russian natural gas to southern Europe through Turkey.

In June last year, Gazprom Neft and Shell signed an agreement at St Petersburg International Economic Forum to create a joint venture for the development of licence blocks in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.
