Pieridae Energy selects HPS’ automation technology for LNG project

Honeywell Process Solutions (HPS) is set to provide full automation and safety systems for Pieridae Energy's Goldboro liquefied natural gas (LNG) project being built in Eastern Canada.

The company will also serve as an integrated main automation contractor (I-MAC) for the facility that will process North American natural gas for export worldwide.

Goldboro is located on the eastern shore of Canada in Nova Scotia and will include a natural gas liquefaction terminal and facilities for LNG storage, as well as marine export.

HPS president Vimal Kapur said: "Honeywell's Integrated-MAC role will help Pieridae eliminate significant project risk, compress its schedule, and ramp up to nameplate production capacity faster.

"Honeywell's latest technologies, project delivery capabilities and expert services will create a highly integrated infrastructure to boost this new venture's profitability."

The facility will have the capacity to process ten million tonnes of LNG per year and has a storage capacity of 690,000m³, with startup expected in 2021.

Pieridae Energy president and CEO Alfred Sorensen said: "I am confident that Honeywell's experienced infrastructure team will work very well with my engineering contractor, and their advanced software team will help Pieridae put the right plan in place to start the business up effectively and efficiently on day one of operations."

HPS will design, deliver and install the distributed control systems (DCS), safety instrumented systems, fire and gas systems, and operator training simulator (OTS) for the project.

The company will also assist Pieridae with integrating all plant infrastructure to the business enterprise systems.

Key deliverables will include various Honeywell technologies. The company will leverage the integrated solutions and reduce potential schedule delays for both Goldboro LNG and its engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor at the time of facility startup.
