McDermott unit CB&I Storage Solutions wins Caribbean LPG contract

US contractor McDermott International’s storage business, CB&I Storage Solutions, has secured a sizeable contract to build four liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) spheres for a Caribbean energy infrastructure project.

Under the work scope of the contract, McDermott’s storage business will perform engineering, procurement, fabrication and construction services for four LPG spheres, each measuring about 88ft in diameter.

The spheres will have a nominal capacity of 63,100 barrels and a design pressure of 290 pounds per square inch (psi).

McDermott noted that fabrication and procurement will be carried out at the company’s Fairbanks facility in Houston, Texas, US.

Meanwhile, engineering will be performed at the company’s Illinois office.

According to the US contractor, a sizeable contract awarded to the company is expected to range between $1m and $50m.

CB&I Storage Solutions senior vice-president Cesar Canals said: “We have a strong track record of executing world-class storage projects in the Caribbean and Central and South America.

“This new award highlights the confidence our customer has in our service offerings and capabilities in engineering, fabricating and constructing high-pressure LPG spheres and other storage solutions that are critical components to its energy infrastructure.”

CB&I Storage Solutions is a builder of storage facilities, tanks and terminals.

McDermott noted that the contract award will be reflected in the company’s Q1 2020 backlog.

Last month, CB&I Storage Solutions secured three contracts for the engineering, procurement, fabrication and construction (EPFC) of storage tanks in multiple locations across Saudi Arabia.
