Venture Global installs first liquefaction equipment at Calcasieu Pass

Venture Global has announced the start of installation of the first natural gas liquefaction equipment at its Calcasieu Pass LNG export facility in Louisiana, US.

The Calcasieu Pass LNG export facility is located in Cameron Parish, Louisiana and being developed by Venture Global LNG subsidiary Venture Global Calcasieu Pass.

Venture Global has received and started setting in place two brazed aluminium heat exchangers, supplied by cryogenic equipment manufacturer Chart Industries.

These heat exchangers, also known as cold boxes, are the first of 18 forming part of the liquefaction process system of the Calcasieu Pass LNG facility.

The US-made cold boxes were delivered four months ahead of schedule.

The 10Mtpa Calcasieu Pass LNG project deploys a process solution from Baker Hughes that utilises mid-scale, modular liquefaction trains. These LNG trains are factory-fabricated in Italy.

Venture Global Co-CEOs Bob Pender and Mike Sabel jointly stated: “We are extremely impressed with the early delivery and execution by Chart Industries and appreciate our collaboration with them.”

In April, Venture Global completed the raising of the first liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage tank roof at Calcasieu Pass. In the same month, Baker Hughes successfully completed a string test of a mixed refrigerant compression system of the Calcasieu Pass project.

Last August, Venture Global awarded a contract to Baker Hughes to provide this comprehensive LNG technology solution for the Calcasieu Pass project.

In July last year, Calcasieu Pass LNG construction financing received more than $10bn in binding commitments from initial coordinating lead arrangers.
